The Glass Aquarium
presented within Marriage of the Sea (Il Ratto di Venezia) by Austin Young
THE POOL NYC presents The Glass Aquarium, an exhibition dedicated to the great masters of glass: Dale Chihuly, Tristano di Robilant, Maria Grazia Rosin, and Lino Tagliapietra, presented within Marriage of the Sea (Il Ratto di Venezia), a site-specific installation by Austin Young at Palazzo Cesari Marchesi. Originally conceived for Venice in 2024, Marriage of the Sea continues to transform the piano nobile into an immersive environment, forming the spatial and conceptual framework within which the exhibition is presented.

Marriage of the Sea (Il Ratto di Venezia) is a site-specific installation by Austin Young that transforms the piano nobile of Palazzo Cesari Marchesi into an immersive, image-based environment. Drawing from Venetian decorative traditions and allegorical painting, the work presents a layered and kaleidoscopic vision of the city, composed from the artist’s original photographs and archival imagery. Rather than functioning as a backdrop, the installation itself defines the spatial and conceptual framework of the Palazzo, within which The Glass Aquarium is presented. Printed textile surfaces and sheer drapery, composed from the artist’s imagery, activate the architecture, producing a shifting and immersive environment that reconfigures the viewer’s perception of the space.
